I used to think that I created my own invitations to give my kids a creative outlet, to save money, or because I couldn’t find anything suitable. But when I’m really being honest, I just like doing all the artsy-craftsy stuff. Sometimes that means I create an invitation completely from scratch, sometimes I adapt something that’s available in my local craft or stationery store.
That said, I think my most memory-laden invitations were the ones in which I involved my kids. My daughter loved doing art projects so it was easy to pull her into any effort. My son wasn’t so inspired but he was always willing to affix stickers. Their birthday-party-anticipation started with the invitations, stretching out the celebration, truly making them feel like a Birthday King or Queen.
